Rhein Riesling to the island
If I had to leave for this Single Island-thing, what to take with me? Hmm, let me think about it – ha! The one thing I really wouldn’t miss could be a bottle of finest German Riesling!!! I love this fluid combination of their unreachable sweetness – perfectly bound in soft-acids as I can find it on this aged Mosel-Rieslings.
Riesling is the most important varietal in the German wine-growing and -making. Nowhere else on the planet, the Riesling grapes find their perfect terroir as they do at the Mosel, Rhein or Ahr region. Aged Riesling wines tend to develop petrol notes – yes you heard right – Petroleum! Sounds awful, smells unbelievable once its finding a corresponding sweetness. Found that crazy Rieslingfreak guy on twitter - my last visit to Germany, I met him up and we tried aged Rieslings from the beginning 1990s – honey colored, wonderful wines. Go out and enjoy your bottle today.
Whe writing this lines, I got thirsty and went to my favourite deli in St. Helena – and bougth them all: The Savignon Blancs Honig and Hess Selection is are fine, most I love the Kungfu Girl Riesling – fresh with superfine sparkling.
