Are Ultrasound Technicians Recommended to Get Certified?

To be able to become a registered diagnostic medical sonographer or ultrasound tech as it is typically known, you will need to pass the Sonography Principles and Instrumentation Test in addition to one or more of the specialty tests. It is your choice which of the ultrasound technician schools you choose. Some people prefer the flexibility of studying online however for others a formal classroom setting is the favored option to pursue a degree. But either way, ensure that the educational institution has been accredited, otherwise the credits gained will not count towards the mandatory education requirement set by the ARDMS. The American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography won’t endorse any university or academic program so be mindful of any school or institution making claims that it does. In addition, you should have clinical experience in order to take the specialty tests so you should choose one of the sonography schools that include a paid clinical internship.
